What is Gallatin Speedway?
Quick answer: Gallatin Speedway is a semi-banked clay oval at 2290 Tubb Road in Belgrade, Montana. It runs IMCA Modifieds and Sport Compacts plus WISSOTA Street Stocks, Super Stocks and Late Models on Friday nights from late May through mid-September, with gates at 5:30 PM and racing at 7:00 PM. ASCS sprint cars visit a few times a season.
It's the closest weekly oval racing to Bozeman and Belgrade. IMCA has sanctioned the modified and sport compact classes since 2014, while the stock car and late model classes run WISSOTA rules. Dave Weisz is the promoter.

Opening Night

Winged sprint cars join the weekly classes. They came back July 10.

Two-night IMCA Modified special. Both nights were rained out in 2026.

Big Sky SuperNationals
Season finale. Late Models on Friday, sprint cars on Saturday, plus the weekly classes.
The 2027 schedule hasn't been published yet. The track usually posts dates on its Facebook page and MyRacePass first. Once they're out, they'll show up on the AGF Montana car event calendar and here automatically.
Race classes
IMCA Modifieds
Purpose-built dirt modifieds and the main event most nights. MODtana Madness is built around them.
Stock Cars
WISSOTA Street Stock and Super Stock classes: full-bodied American V8 sedans that lean on each other in the turns.
IMCA Sport Compacts
Four-cylinder front-drivers. Cheap to build, easy to get into, and usually a crowd favorite.
Sprint Cars
The ASCS National Tour and Frontier Sprint Tour stop in Belgrade a few nights a year, and IMCA RaceSaver Sprints run some Fridays. The fastest cars on the property.
Late Models & Midwest Mods
WISSOTA Late Models and Midwest Modifieds rotate in on select Fridays. Each night runs four classes, so check the schedule.
Getting in a car
IMCA publishes class rules each year. Sport Compact is the usual starting point for new drivers.
Tips for race night
Bring
- Ear protection, especially for kids and sprint car nights.
- A warm layer. Valley evenings cool off fast once the sun goes down.
- Clothes you don't mind getting dusty. It's a dirt track.
- A seat cushion for the grandstand.
Timing
- Gates open at 5:30 PM. Hot laps and heats come before the 7:00 PM features build.
- Arrive early on special-event nights like the Big Sky SuperNationals.
- Weather cancellations get posted on the track's Facebook page, so check before you leave.
Shooting it
- Turns are where the action is. Find a spot with the light behind you.
- Pan with the cars at 1/60–1/125 s for motion blur in the wheels.
- Once the lights come on, push ISO and accept some grain.

- Prices vary by night. MODtana Madness 2026 was advertised at $20 for adults, free for kids 12 and under, and $35 for a pit pass.
