Sold • Factory Triple-Locked Lexus LX450s • Bring a Trailer & Cars & Bids
Crack PipeOr Nice Price?
Sixty auctions, seven years and one very expensive light switch. A $17,750 driver, a $22,000 dealer flip and a $67,500 time capsule, scored against every factory triple-locked LX450 I could find.

This week's premise
Three Lockers, Two Auction Sites, One Question
The Lexus LX450 was only sold for 1996 and 1997. It's an 80-Series Land Cruiser in a nicer suit: same 4.5-liter 1FZ-FE inline-six, same solid axles front and rear, same full-time four-wheel drive with a locking center differential. Wood trim and a Lexus badge cost extra.
A few of them left the factory with the option that matters to people like me: locking front and rear differentials on top of the center lock. Three lockers. Every wheel turns whether it wants to or not. Sellers call it "rare," "desirable" and "triple-locked," and they price it like a religious artifact.
So instead of three classified ads, this one goes back through every ended Bring a Trailer and Cars & Bids auction I could find for a factory triple-locked LX450. Trucks with lockers added later, like ARB, TJM or Harrop setups, don't count. Neither do rear-locker-only trucks. That left 60 auctions from December 2019 to this week. Then I picked three to score the usual way.
Full disclosure: I drive an LX450, the big, fat, slow camera whale. That makes me biased, emotionally invested and very good at spotting a cracked dashboard.
The market
What Triple-Locked LX450s Actually Sell For
Here's every one of them. Each dot is an auction, and you can hover over one for the details. The dashed line is the median sale for that year.
The market • What it says
Flat for Four Years, Then 2026 Happened
From 2021 through 2025, the median triple-locked sale bounced between about $22,000 and $31,600. Clean trucks brought the thirties, tired ones brought the teens, and nobody panicked.
Then 2026 showed up. Ten triple-locked trucks sold between January and this week, and the median was $35,625, the highest of any year in the data. Over the last 12 months the median was $33,125 across 12 sales, up from $25,475 the 12 months before.
The lockers are worth real money. Over the last 12 months on Bring a Trailer, triple-locked LX450s sold for a median of $35,250. LX450s without front and rear lockers sold for $21,875. That's about $13,000 for two switches and the hardware behind them.
Miles still matter more than anything. Since 2023, trucks under 100,000 miles sold for a median of $48,500, but there are only two of them. Trucks with 100,000 to 175,000 miles brought $31,000. From 175,000 to 225,000 miles, $26,050. Over 225,000, $23,000.
One more pattern: Cars & Bids runs cheaper. Its nine triple-locked sales have a median of $20,250, against $27,000 for all 43 on Bring a Trailer. Same trucks, different crowd.
Auction 1 of 3 • Bring a Trailer • Milton, FL • Ended Jul 22, 2026
The $17,750 Beige One Everybody Scrolled Past
Our first contestant is a 1997 LX450 that sold on Bring a Trailer for $17,750 at no reserve. It shows 128,000 miles, the seller bought it from its original owner in 2011, and it has the full set: locking front, center and rear differentials.
It was repainted in its original Cashmere Beige Metallic in 2023, the seats were reupholstered in tan leather, and recent work includes valve cover gaskets, an alternator, a fuel tank and pump, an EGR valve and an air conditioning compressor.
Then the listing gets honest. A 2026 service receipt notes oil leaks. There's corrosion underneath. The dash is cracked, the CD changer doesn't work, the vent slats are loose, a rear window motor is weak and the driver's seat motor needs replacing. The wheels are corroded too.
The day before, a 115,000-mile 1997 triple-locked LX450 sold on the same site for $50,000.

What the Auction Says vs. What It Means
| The Auction Says | Points | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| Factory front, center and rear lockers | + Nice | The option that makes LX450 people lose their minds. |
| 128,000 miles, one prior owner | + Nice | Low for an 80-Series. Most of these are past 200,000. |
| Repainted, reupholstered, lots of recent parts | + Nice | Someone already spent the boring money. |
| No reserve | + Nice | The market set the price, not the seller's feelings. |
| Oil leaks and corrosion underneath | − Pipe | The two words that scare off the big bidders. |
| Cracked dash, dead seat motor, broken CD changer | − Pipe | Normal 30-year-old Lexus stuff. Annoying, not fatal. |

What Similar Trucks Brought
Auction 1 • The verdict
Nice Price. Bring a Creeper and a Flashlight.
This is the cheapest triple-locked LX450 with under 130,000 miles in the whole data set. The listing said "corrosion" and "oil leaks" right up front, and the price shows it.
If the frame is crusty-but-solid and the leaks are the usual valve cover and front main seal stuff, the buyer got a $30,000 truck for $17,750.
What I'd have paid: $22,000, after a long look underneath.

Auction 2 of 3 • Cars & Bids • Opa Locka, FL • Ended Dec 30, 2025
The $22,000 Dealer Flip With the Window Sticker
The second truck is a black 1997 LX450 that sold on Cars & Bids for $22,000 at no reserve. It shows 206,500 miles, the Carfax lists two owners, and the window sticker in the gallery confirms the factory triple locking differentials.
This one was sold by a dealer who says they bought it in December 2025, the same month it went up for auction. Before the sale they changed the oil and serviced the brakes and air conditioning. The only modification listed is reupholstered seats.
The known flaws list is long and specific: chips, scratches, dings and paint bubbles, worn weatherstripping, curb rash, a cracked dash, a stained steering wheel and carpets, and some corrosion on the body, underbody and engine bay. The Carfax also has reporting gaps.

What the Auction Says vs. What It Means
| The Auction Says | Points | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| Window sticker shows triple lockers | + Nice | Paper proof. The best kind of proof. |
| Two owners, clean Florida title | + Nice | Simple history, no rust-belt winters. |
| Fresh oil, brakes and A/C service | + Nice | The minimum, but it's done. |
| Dealer bought it the same month | − Pipe | Someone already took their cut. You're paying for it. |
| 206,500 miles | − Pipe | Normal for an 80-Series, but it's not cheap miles anymore. |
| Paint bubbles, corrosion, Carfax gaps | − Pipe | Florida sun and salt air did what they always do. |

What 200,000-Mile Triple-Lockers Brought
Auction 2 • The verdict
Nice Price, Barely. The Dealer Did Fine Too.
$22,000 sits right under the $25,000 to $27,000 that similar-mileage triple-lockers brought on either side of it. That's the Cars & Bids discount and the dealer discount working together.
It's a fair price for an honest, tired truck with paperwork. It's not a steal, because the dealer bought it earlier the same month and needed a margin.
What I'd have paid: $21,000. Close enough to call it even.

Auction 3 of 3 • Bring a Trailer • Zionsville, IN • Ended Jun 4, 2026
The $67,500 Champagne Time Capsule
The last truck is the one that made everybody spit out their coffee. A Champagne Pearl 1997 LX450 with 92,000 miles sold on Bring a Trailer for $67,500, at no reserve.
It lived in California until 2018, has a clean Carfax, and comes with Ivory leather, a roof rack, a six-disc CD changer and, of course, all three lockers. Recent work is modest: new Michelin tires and a brake fluid flush in 2025, plus an oil change and coolant flush. The listing notes some scratches and paint chips.
That's the second-highest triple-locked LX450 sale in the data, behind a 26,000-mile truck that brought $100,500 in 2022.

Auction 3 • The scorecard
What the Auction Says vs. What It Means
| The Auction Says | Points | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| 92,000 miles | + Nice | Barely broken in. These run past 300,000. |
| Factory triple lockers | + Nice | The rare option on a rare truck. |
| California until 2018, clean Carfax | + Nice | No salt, no drama, no surprises. |
| No reserve | + Nice | Two people really wanted it. That's the whole story. |
| $67,500 | − Pipe | More than double the 2026 median for a triple-locked truck. |
| Scratches and paint chips | − Pipe | Fine. It's a 29-year-old truck. Use it. |

What Low-Mile Triple-Lockers Brought
Auction 3 • The verdict
Crack Pipe, Mildly. But Somebody Had a Lighter.
A 90,000-mile triple-locked truck sold for $29,500 three years ago. This one sold for $67,500. The truck didn't get $38,000 better. The market got louder.
It was no reserve, so this is a real number two real bidders agreed on. But the next 92,000-mile triple-locker isn't automatically a $67,500 truck, and anyone pricing theirs off this sale should be careful.
What I'd have paid: $50,000, and I'd still feel a little dizzy.

The scoreboard
Three Triple-Lockers, Ranked
| The Auction | Sold For | Verdict / What I'd Have Paid |
|---|---|---|
| 1997 LX450, 128k, Milton, FL (BaT) | $17,750 | Nice Price. $22,000. |
