The Red Rock Doppelgänger: A Solid-Axle Legend Found in the Wild
Spotted: a glitch in the Moab matrix.
Just as I was rolling out of Hell’s Revenge yesterday, I saw this rig heading the other way and nearly did a double-take. It is quite literally my brother’s doppelgänger build—same year, same color, and same first-gen Nissan Xterra DNA. I ended up chasing the guy down at a grocery store just to get a closer look, and man, this thing was glowing in that desert sun.
The Specs (The "Real" Deal)
This isn't your average mall crawler. It’s a factory-supercharged beast that’s been put under the knife for some serious surgery. We’re talking:
Rear Locker: For when the traction gets optional.
Solid Axle Swapped: This is where it gets interesting. Apparently, the front end is sourced from a Wagoneer (that’s a JOOP), whereas my brother’s rig is running a FERD (Ford) axle. We’ll keep the redneck emphasis for the culture.
For Sale (Again?)
The owner mentioned it’s "exchanged hands a few times" recently—which is usually code for "I realized how much work a SAS Xterra is"—and word on the street is that it’s currently for sale. Again. If you’re looking for a rig that’s already been through the Moab wringer and lived to tell the tale, this might be your chance to own a piece of desert lore.
Just be prepared to explain to everyone why you're driving a Nissan with Jeep parts.
NEVER LIFT.
